Full Tummy Project in Covington County

Many of you have seen me mention my involvement with a MOPS group. I was a member of the MOPS group in Dothan while we lived there and now that we have moved back to Opp, I am a member of the MOPS of Andalusia. The MOPS in Andalusia has started a Full Tummy project that provides quick/easy meals for elementary aged students for the long weekend that some of them spend being hungry. I think it is a phenomenal project and I wanted to share it with all of you so that you can help out as we now serve 2 extra schools with a combined total of 146 students (and this number increases often).

Right now we are working on having some Food Drives at some of the schools where students can bring the listed items to help stock our Full Tummy shelves! If you are interested in having a drive at your business, church, school, wherever, please do so and let us know so we can make arrangements to pick up and thank the proper individuals! Here is a copy of the sponsor letter and shopping guidelines:

Andalusia MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a non-denominational support organization comprised of local moms from Covington County.  The chapter has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception and has expanded its scope in the spring of 2014 by starting the Full Tummy ProjectThis project is designed to provide a small bag of food on Fridays for children in our county’s elementary schools (K-6) who are at risk for hunger on the weekends.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner items, along with snacks and a healthy drink, are discreetly placed in the child's backpack at a time on Friday when children are not in the classroom.

The children who qualify for this project are determined by the school's administration and their identities are kept confidential.  Each school gives us the number of students in need. We simply deliver the number of food bags needed to individual schools each week for distribution on Friday.  We are currently serving 146 children each week.   At current food prices, we need approximately $12,000 annually to successfully run this project.

It is that simple, but WE NEED YOU to help make it happen.  We would love to have you join Andalusia MOPS as we “fill tummies” at Andalusia Elementary, Opp Elementary, Straughn Elementary, Red Level Elementary and Pleasant Home Elementary.  This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and make a difference in the life of the children in our community.

Full Tummies offers four levels of giving, but any amount would be greatly appreciated.  In-kind donations are also important to the success of this endeavor (please see the attached list of approved products).  All donations are tax-deductible.

Sponsorship Levels

Platinum                     $500
Gold                            $250
