To Buy or Not To Buy

The past few days, Gregg and I have been considering the idea of trading my Jeep in and getting a car. We need something that is better on gas. With my Jeep being full-time 4x4 it only averages (AT BEST) 17 mpg. We go several miles each week on the Jeep. Gregg drives back and forth to work on it and drops off/picks up Kaidi everyday, plus on Wednesdays he drives back to Opp for Rotary and also one Tuesday of the month he has to come back for another lunch meeting. On Monday nights I drive it to Andalusia and back for class and now I am taking an evening class in Luverne twice a week. Luckily I have someone to carpool with so that cut down to driving to Luverne only one time.. All and all I would say that my Jeep drives about 350 miles per week, not counting the weekends. That's a LOT of miles and at 17mpg with gas going up like it is, we need a break!! We have had a Chevy Impala the last 2 days and we like it, but we are also considering a few other cars, Honda Accord, Kia Optima, Hyuandai Sonata Chevy Malibu and Impala.. I was just looking for some advice! If any of you have any of these vehicles, do you love it, do you hate it, would you recommend it for me? Space is a huge issue that I am concerned with so keep in mind an infant carrier and a toddler carseat in the back! We put both in the Impala last night and seemed to have pretty good room and the trunk was HUGE, which will be great for overnight trips. Just trying to decide if this is a good idea or not. With buying a car, we know we could cut our gas money down to nearly half of what we pay right now per month. So, opinions anyone??
Here's a pic of each car that we are looking at:
Kia Optima
Hyundai Sonata
Honda Accord
Chevrolet Impala
Chevrolet Malibu

I have a car and two toddlers and I would just tell you to make sure there is room in the trunk for those big double strollers! Mine barely fits and getting it in and out is super annoying :(
Good luck!
ps- your baby girl is getting so big! She is darling!

my daughter has an impala, and I love the huge trunk, cuz I take it grocery shopping, and as it looks from the pics, i think the impala is roomier inside!!!

I know you didn't mention it, but I have a Honda crv and I love it. It is a good mix between a car and suv. It drives like a car ( I used to drive an accord and odyssey) but you have room in the back. Also gets pretty good gas mileage ( 22-24 mpg around town.

I've never posted before, but I thought I could help on this one. I drive an Impala, we sold my Tahoe last year due to gas prices. We have a toddler and a baby on the way. I love how roomy it is, and that it offers the latch system on all 3 spots in the back seat. The trunk is huge and the safety/mechanic ratings are fantastic!

We used to have a Honda Accord and really liked it. We only had one child but there was plenty of room for 2 adults to sit by her when grandparents came to visit. Now we have a Honda CRV and love it so much more. As odd as it sounds our gas milage improved when we bought the CRV. Our CRV has better milage than our Accord had. Plus there is a lot more storage space.

Well as you know I'm a minivan momma, but girl if I didn't have 4 kids I would soooo be driving me a new malibu. I LOVE THEM!!!! But I can't really help ya cause I don't have a car. Have you thought about a minivan???? Mine gets around 21 and some of the newer ones get better. :)

This is coming from a GRANDMOTHER...just make sure you have enough metal around you and your babies in case of an accident!
Of course, these smaller cars do not offer the safety of some of the larger ones. I guess what I am saying is do not compromise safety for gas mileage!

We have a Sonata that is a few years old and it is a great car! Terrific gas mileage and we have not had any maintenance issues with it. Also, if you buy new, (which this yers model is sooo nice looking) Hyundai has a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Just thought I would delurk and share!

I know this wasn't one of your choices, but I have an 09 Toyota Camry. I get really good gas mileage. I have 2 kids in car seats in the back and I can fit between then and get buckled. My trunk it very big. I easily hodl a double stroller. I can fit probably 5 large suitcases in it. Hope this helps

I just traded in my 2010 Acadia for the same reason. I drive 75 miles everyday to and from work. I traded it in for a 2011 Camry and couldn't be happier. I ccompared it to all of the ones you mentioned and nothing compared to the room in the Camry! It also gets 32 miles to the gallon. I love it and couldn't be happier! Good Luck!

We sold our Yukon XL due to gas prices and now I drive a Honda Accord. Love it! It's actually my second Accord and I have 3 teenagers but they do all fit in the back! It's quite roomy and comfortable. Plus they are very reliable!

I have an Impala and love it. The huge trunk is so nice. Plently of leg room in the front and back. Had my car for 6 years and it's been great.

You didn't mention it, but I drive a Pontiac G6 and it has tons of room! The trunk is huge and the back seat has lots of leg room. We get almost 30 mpg on the road and 24 mpg around town. I will say the trunk has a long narrow opening which can sometimes stink, but I love it! I would at least test drive one. :)
